Caldecott Awards

Second graders continue a Stipes' tradition by reading Caldecott Medal winners during the Spring. Each student who reads at least 10 books receives a certificate embossed with the Caldecott Medal. A special awards ceremony is held in the cafeteria to recognize the 2nd graders who receive certificates.

The library at Stipes Elementary School is at the heart of the school because reading is at the heart of all student achievement. The library offers students, parents, teachers, and community members access to an array of resources...both printed materials and electronic data. With the vast collection of the library and the individualized assistance of a full-time librarian and clerk, the Stipes Library strives to help students become lifelong readers and wise users of information. Dr. Seuss knew that the more you read, the more likely it is that you will get what you want in life, whether it's reading for school or reading just for fun. So here's a challenge. Turn off the TV. Put away the video games. Walk away from the computer. Open a book and see what adventures are waiting for you. Reading can be so much fun.
